Disaster Management
Disaster Management activities are carried out by PHED, Assam in close coordination with District Disaster Management Authority/ District Administration. Emergency Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation facilities are arranged by the department as per direction and as per requirements of District Administration.
Assam Disaster Management Manual 2015 is the basis of for all Disaster Management activities. The Department also follows the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for addressing Natural Calamities issued by Govt. of India during 2011.
As per provision of SOP, the department has already declared Nodal officers at different levels. The department experienced and extending support to Flood Affected people as well as people affected in Ethic Clashed and Water Borne Diseases. Trainings are arranged along with Awareness Programmes for disaster resilient activities for the common people in vulnerable areas.
Disaster Preparedness has been made an integral part of Department’s development activities. All the water supply schemes are designed in accordance with the requirements of BIS codes. Department has installed some Spot Sources with raised platforms in vulnerable areas so that, people can use those during Flood. It has procured Mobile Water Treatments Plants and stationed those in vulnerable areas so as to use those as and when required. Department has also procured Mobile Water Testing laboratories for testing water samples during disaster and normal situations besides Field Testing Kits. PHED has also developed Water Purification Chemical packets capable of purifying even Flood water. These are very economical and dependable.
